CRDM, Comm, and English Students & Faculty:
You are each warmly invited to participate in our NCSU chapter of the Rhetoric Society of America. Our student chapter is a place for MA and PhD students to come together with faculty to discuss problems of rhetoric, as well as support other students in their scholarly work. This will be a fun opportunity to further your engagement with rhetoric outside of the classroom.
We’ll kick off the semester Thursday, September 21 at 6pm in the CRDM Conference Room in Ricks Annex. The current president of the Rhetoric Society of America, Professor Gregory Clark, will be joining us over Skype for a discussion of his recent book, Civic Jazz: American Music and Kenneth Burke on the Art of Getting Along (follow the link to access the full book online through the library catalog). Our discussion will focus on Chapter 2: “A Rhetorical Aesthetic of Jazz.” The book won the 2016 RSA Outstanding Book Award, and this is an excellent opportunity to participate in a discussion with a senior scholar in the field of rhetoric. We hope you will join us!
As the semester progresses, we will continue to host rhetoric reading discussions and other activities. Stay tuned, and join our meetings to share your own ideas for our next reading selection.
