At its biannual conference in Atlanta this month of June, Carolyn Miller received the Rhetoric Society of America’s 2016 Cheryl Geisler Award for Outstanding Mentor. She was nominated by current and former CRDM students, with supporting letters from NC State faculty Vicki Gallagher (CRDM and Department of Communication) and Brad Mehlenbacher (College of Education). The citation says, “Professor Miller is recognized for her considerable energy and care in mentoring students and colleagues not only at her own institution, but also at other institutions—indeed, throughout the world. Her individual mentoring attends to the full range of issues associated with career development and she has worked to build infrastructure to support career development for the field as a whole.”
