CWSP Brown Bag: Dialect in Student Writing and What (Not) to Do about It

Dear Colleagues,

Registration is now open for the Campus Writing & Speaking Program’s October Brown Bag Event: “Dialect in Student Writing and What (Not) to Do about It” by Professor Jeffrey Reaser on Monday, October 2 from 12pm-1pm in Withers 331.
A persistent and vexing problem involves dialect features appearing in student writing. Often, such features trigger strong emotional responses from teachers. In this session, Jeffrey Reaser, Associate Professor of English at NC State and author of extensive research on dialect, examines why these features persist in student writing and some productive and non-productive ways that teachers can respond to them.

A box lunch from Panera Bread will be provided to the first eight participants to register. Lunch winners will be notified via email by Monday, September 25.

To sign up for this event, please go to the link below and fill out the registration form.  Registrants must use their NCSU Google mail address in order to access the online registration link. If you have questions about registration, please contact Meridith Reed (mreed3@ncsu.edu).
