Workshop: From Scientist to Social Media Influencer

This workshop will cover the latest research on science communication and digital media, why and how scientists can use online platforms to engage with the public and create a personal brand, and practical guidelines for how to implement best practices at any career stage. Topics will include defining communication goals, identifying audiences, choosing appropriate platforms, and creating content. The session will incorporate a hands-on learning component for attendees to practice what they learn.
Dr. Nicole M. Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication. Her research focuses on public relations and digital media, particularly within the context of science communication. Her primary program of research examines how public relations practitioners can utilize two-way communication online to more effectively communicate about science with lay audiences. This work can be seen in academic journals such as Science Communication and Environmental Communication. Her research on climate change communication has also been funded by the Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication.
